How did my journey with AI & ML start - Machine Learning Maverick

Mathematics was my starting point. I will not describe how my journey with mathematics started, no, I won’t go that far. My adventure with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning began before the current (year 2023) hype around AI and ML. During some coding session, a friend showed me on a piece of paper how movie recommendation systems work using matrices. I’ve asked him, is it really that simple? It was the starting point.

I always wanted to know more, so I dived deeper into this topic. You can find on the Internet tons of video tutorials and courses about AI & ML. None of them fit my needs, I had three main goals to achieve. First, I wanted to learn solid mathematical fundamentals for AI & ML; second, creating a practical project without using programming libraries that hide the important things; third, I wanted to learn how to use the Data Scientist tools to prepare, analyze, and visualize any kind of data.

After months of searching, I stumbled upon these diamonds, that fit my main three goals.

  1. “Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning (Fall 2021)” by Rebecca Willett – Professor of Statistics and Computer Science, at the University of Chicago – here is the link for the recorded lectures.
  2. “No Black Box Machine Learning Course โ€“ Learn Without Libraries” by Radu – freeCodeCamp.org – here is the link for this course on YouTube.
  3. “Complete Machine Learning & Data Science Bootcamp 2023” – by Andrei Neagoie & Daniel Bourke – zerotomastery.io – here is the link for this course on Udemy.com.

Why do I write a blog about it? I believe in the Feynman Technique to learn anything – more about this technique in this link.

The Feynman Technique
Step 1. Identify and research the topic you want to learn
Step 2. Explain the topic as if teaching a sixth-grader
Step 3. Identify areas of improvement in your explanation
Step 4. Improve and optimize your explanation

NOTE: I’m still at the beginning of my learning process with AI & ML!
